British Heart Foundation
What we did
One of our agency partners Made By Sonder had been briefed by the British Heart Foundation to create an emotively impactful film to help raise awareness around the steps that people can take to reduce their risk of developing heart disease from other linked conditions.
They came to us with a full script, storyboard and look-book, and it was up to us to bring their vision to life. The challenge lay in the fact that we would be working not with actors, but real people with real experience of heart problems and the concept we had been presented with depended on us being able to get the best possible performance out of people with little-to-no experience in front of the camera.
Not only that, but as is always the case when working with charities, purse strings were tight and we needed to be flexible to make their budget work harder for them by filming 4 individual stories across 2 days and making two locations, look like 4 different homes.
Preparation and efficiency were vital in getting the most out of the subjects, time and locations we were working with. Locations scouts were carried out and our interview subjects were meticulously profiled, researched and screen-tested, meaning that as soon as our crew arrived we were able to move swiftly into our pre-designed set ups for each subject. This allowed us to prioritise making those people feel as comfortable as possible and coach them through the process from start to finish.
The result is a film wherein what really stands out are the individual stories of the people involved. All of the other elements of the production are all working in unison merely to help supplement the impact of those stories. We knew that no matter how impressive the film looked, if those stories didn’t ring true then the film would ultimately fail in its purpose. That’s why performance was king for this project, as is so often the case!
